Taming of the Dragon (TOTD) is a competition for high school students focused on solving a local or international issue to bring about positive social change. It is a Rotary District 7070 conference initiative.

Guidelines

Am I eligible?


  • Have an idea, event, project, or business that falls within at least one of Rotary’s 6 Areas of Focus (small or large scale, all welcome)
  • Have at least a team of 2 students
  • All team members are high school students in Ontario, Canada
  • Want to experience a new opportunity
  • Want to enhance teamwork, leadership and communication skills
  • Want to build a larger network of industry professionals and community leaders

Step 1

Submit an application

Due: Friday, March 31st, 2017 11:59PM

In teams of at least 2 high school students, submit an idea brief online. Teams may submit as many ideas as they wish. Only one application is needed per team per idea.

What can you submit? Maybe you have an event in mind, or maybe a business venture? Whatever it may be, we want to hear about it!

Doesn’t hurt to try! We want to hear your ideas and help turn them into action!

Step 2

Preliminary Screening

By Saturday, April 15th, 2017 5:00PM

All teams who submit an idea brief will receive an email confirmation back by this date indicating if they have been selected to move onto the qualifying round.

Whether you qualified or not, every team will receive an email back from our committee. If you do not qualify, we highly recommend still continuing with your project. Our team can assist in matching you up with a Rotary Club in our District who can provide some guidance.

Step 3

Qualifying Round

On Saturday, May 6th, 2017 Evening

Teams who qualify for this round will be presenting their idea in front of industry judges, Rotaractors, Interactors, & delegates at the District Rotaract-Interact Conference.

Individuals will get a free, complimentary ticket, into the dinner portion of the conference.There will be 3-5 judges from various industries and backgrounds.

Competitors are encouraged to join in for the full day “You’ve Got A Friend In Me” conference, tickets will be discounted at $30/person just for you! Please connect with Weiting for the Discount Code.

Step 4

Final Round

On November 4, 2017

3-5 teams will be matched with local Rotary Clubs and undergo training during the summer leading up to this final presentation at the District Rotary Conference.

Individuals will receive a complimentary conference ticket in order to present to the group of ~300 guests on the main stage. There will be 3-5 judges from various industries and backgrounds.
